The Bulgarian Theological College has an accredited bachelor degree program, which is synchronized with the rest of the evangelical colleges in the BETI consortium. The program is in theological studies and consists of 6/8 semesters of classroom studies (six semester for the students who are on full scholarship) and one semester for practicum and diploma paper preparation.
There are 2 semesters each school year – fall and spring, as well as intensive courses offered in January and/or June. Each course is taught in blocks according to the number of credits affixed to it. Each credit is equal to 45 minutes of class time.
Every semester consists of 13-15 calendar weeks (depending on the semester frame). There is 1 week for midterm exams and one week for final exams each semester. The rest of the time is dedicated to lectures/ discussions/ workshops.
The fall semester usually starts in the first week of October and ends just before the Christmas holidays. Te final exam week is scheduled after the Christmas break in the beginning of January. The rest of the month of January the students are not required back in the classroom except in the cases when there is a scheduled intensive course with a guest lecturer.
The spring semester starts in the first week of February and ends in the end of May. The final exams are scheduled for the last week of May. There is a commencement ceremony in the first Saturday of June. There is one more official commencement ceremony, which is held in the capital of Sofia for all graduates from the four evangelical colleges associated with the Bulgarian Evangelical Theological Institute (BETI).
There is a summer break for the students from the beginning of June to the end of September, except for any intensive courses that might be scheduled for the first two weeks of June and/ or the last week of September. During the summer break the students are encouraged to continue their ministry in their local churches under the supervision of their local pastor. |
